Cheap in the Heart of Texas
Draper Fisher Jurveston has opened a new Texas affiliate, DFJ Mercury. According to their newsletter, they'll initially be based in Houston and Austin. DFJ is a sillicon valley based venture capital fund with offices all over the world, so this announcement is a sign of increasing interest in our area by high-profile international technology investors.

"I rekkin' that $50 millin' jist a' burning a hole in them faincy city slacks a' yers."

I'm feeling better about the outlook for Texas-based technology start-ups. It seems like we (Austin in particular) were hit harder than other areas by The Correction, but some resources, people and ideas are still here. So I am hopeful for the future here. I just really wish DFJ brought more than $50M with them. Or rather, I wish the opportunities here in Texas warranted it. OR RATHER, that DFJ and others recognized that they do.

"You know the name 'Texas' come from tha Innian word 'Tejas', which is Innian for 'Friend'. So lissen here close, Friend: I suggest you buy some'n 'er git out."
